5 Things to Know About the Camden Public Library

Midcoast Maine is brimming with charm and hidden gems, and Camden’s Public Library is no exception. In fact, there are so many neat things about our library, we’ll probably end up creating a seasonal series just to scratch the surface!

CAMDEN PUBLIC LIBRARY IS MAINE’S ONLY 5-STAR LIBRARY

You won't find this on a sign outside, but the library is a bit of a rockstar. It's the only 5-star library in the whole state, thanks to all of us who keep coming back for more. I guess you could say Camden knows how to appreciate a good book.

THEY SERVE THE 5 TOWNS SCHOOL DISTRICT

It's not just a library; it's like a second home for the kiddos in Appleton, Camden, Hope, Lincolnville, and Rockport. If you have a little one in the Five Towns School District, chances are they've made a few visits here for storytime with Miss Amy! Every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, she hosts in-person story times at the library.

MORE THAN JUST BOOKS: HARBOR PARK AND THE AMPHITHEATRE ARE ALSO PART OF THE LIBRARY

Did you know you can tie the knot at the Camden Amphitheatre? Yep, the library hosts weddings, adding a touch of romance to its pages. And get this – those weddings help the library with their fundraising, too!

THE ‘READING ROOM’ IS AVAILABLE FOR PRIVATE EVENTS

Okay, let me spill a little secret. The third floor of the library is like a hidden treasure. It's called the "Reading Room," and it can be rented out for private events. (Think company Christmas party with a view!) Up to 125 people can fit, and trust me, the views of Harbor Park and Camden Harbor are a showstopper.

MOST YOUTUBE SUBSCRIBERS OF ANY LIBRARY IN MAINE

The library is keeping up with the times. They were doing the virtual thing long before 2020, and now they're YouTube famous with the most subscribers of any library in the state! From story sessions to events, they've got the virtual game on point, making sure we stay connected no matter what.

So there you have it, five nuggets about the library that make it more than just a place for books. It's a community hub, a celebration spot, and a virtual hangout all rolled into one. Keep supporting our local gem, and stay tuned for more Camden Famous insights!
