Freya’s Ice Cream in Rockport

At Freya’s Ice Cream in Rockport, Therese Winterheart is redefining the ice cream shop experience with a European-inspired twist. Her passion for food, hospitality, and gathering people together led her to create a space that’s as warm and inviting as it is unexpected. “I wanted an elevated, elegant ice cream shop—one that wasn’t just for kids but also a place where adults would want to linger, have a glass of wine, and enjoy the atmosphere,” she explains. With cozy fur throws, rustic wood tones, and a nod to Scandinavian and Parisian aesthetics, Freya’s feels like a step into another world.

Therese’s gelato and sorbetto are crafted with precision, using high-quality ingredients that allow every flavor to shine. “Gelato has less butterfat than American ice cream, which means you taste the flavors immediately, without a heavy coating on your tongue,” she says. Whether it’s her from-scratch caramel, intensely rich chocolate, or a rosemary-infused blood orange sorbet, every scoop is made with care. Beyond the sweets, Freya’s also offers savory buckwheat crepes, hearty enough for dinner, and a curated selection of wine, beer, and house-made cold brew. “We wanted this to be a place where you can grab a drink while the kids get ice cream—where everyone in the family finds something they love.”

Unlike seasonal ice cream spots, Freya’s stays open nearly year-round, from mid-February to mid-December, offering everything from summer root beer floats to mulled wine in the colder months. Situated near Rockport’s Walker Park and the harbor, it’s the perfect stop before a seaside stroll or a night of live music downtown. “Rockport is changing in exciting ways,” says Therese, “and we’re happy to be part of that shift—offering something different, something cozy, and something delicious.”
