PAWS Animal Adoption Center

This year marks a significant milestone for PAWS Animal Adoption Center as they celebrate 50 years of dedicated service to the animals and people of Camden, Maine. Under the leadership of Shelter Director Meghan O'Connor, PAWS has grown to include a committed staff of 23 and more than 100 volunteers, all united in their mission to support and protect animals.

At PAWS, every donation makes a difference. Contributions directly support the animals' needs, covering essentials such as kennel maintenance, vaccinations, medications, food, and vital supplies to maintain a clean and healthy environment. As a hub for local animal care, PAWS frequently welcomes new arrivals, including kittens and puppies from as far as Puerto Rico, with monthly transports provided there's room. "We always prioritize our community's animals first," says Meghan, highlighting their commitment to local needs first.

PAWS is a cornerstone of community outreach aimed at keeping pets with their families. One of their standout initiatives is the "Last Litter" program. This innovative program allows community members to bring in a mother cat and her kittens, where the mother is spayed free of charge and returned to her family, and the kittens are adopted out locally.

Further reinforcing their community roots, PAWS operates as a low-cost clinic, offering services to state aid recipients, making animal care accessible to more families. With over 1,000 animals passing through their doors annually, collaboration with local veterinarians ensures a network of care and support, sharing records and referrals to enhance the wellness and treatment of pets across the area.

Stay updated with PAWS through their regularly updated website and Facebook page, where pictures of new arrivals and success stories continue to inspire and engage the community.
