13 Oak in Rockland

Located in the heart of Rockland, 13 Oak brings wood-fired cooking to a historic space once known as the Owls Club—a former gathering place with a storied past. Owners Rada Valkova, Kyle Ruger, and Ryan Townsend chose the name to honor the building’s original address, which was changed years ago due to superstition. Now, it’s a neighborhood spot where nearly everything on the menu has a connection to the wood-fired oven. Whether it’s the prime strip steak grilled over hot coals or the Bulgarian feta cheese with fresh-baked naan, the focus is on bold, unfussy flavors.

The menu is designed to suit any kind of night out—whether it’s stopping in for a comforting bowl of mac and cheese and a beer or indulging in a full spread of fire-roasted meats and seafood straight from the local docks. The cocktail list changes with the seasons, and the wine selection spans the globe, including a few unexpected finds like Greek wines.

When renovating the space, Valkova, Ruger, and Townsend stripped away the previous dark tones, opting for something cleaner and more inviting. “We just tried to modernize it and make it a little more open and welcoming,” they say. Mission accomplished. With its intimate bar, lively energy, and food cooked over an open flame, 13 Oak has quickly become a favorite for locals and visitors alike.
