3 Great Day Trips from Camden, Maine

For when you need a vacation from your vacation.

Breathtaking Views in Lubec, Maine

A fantastic day trip!

Sure, Acadia is incredible, but… it’s also the place everyone tells you to go. We’re all about promoting spectacular experiences that are off the beaten path. And Lubec, Maine is definitely off the beaten path! (It’s the easternmost town in the United States!) Nearly three hours north of Camden, you’ll want to get an early start on this day trip. We recommend grabbing some sandwiches at Camden Deli or Lincolnville Beach Store and packing some good hiking shoes, plenty of water, and making sure there’s plenty of storage room on your phone — there’s endless beauty that you’ll want to soak in, and capture for posterity!

Enjoy an Afternoon at Freedom’s Edge

A great weekend afternoon day trip!

Have you heard of Freedom’s Edge Cider? It’s a hand-crafted hard cider sold all over Maine - on tap at Sugarloaf and Sunday River, and available at select Hannafords, and at tons of specialty and general stores. The founders love to share - so they open their cider-making spot in Albion to the public from summer until fall. Visiting Freedom’s Edge is like a trip to a mini-fair: there are rotating food trucks, live music, picnic tables, outdoor games (think: giant Jenga, horseshoes, and cornhole) and lots of delicious handcrafted ciders on tap to sample, enjoy, and take home!

Head down to Phippsburg

A great day trip for friends, couples, and families.

This is a trip we make each summer, and it never ceases to delight us! From Camden, the drive is just over an hour. We always hit the Fort Popham State Historic Site along the Kennebec River. You’ll find free parking, a glorious Civil War-era fort, public restrooms, and a sandy beach. It’s a place to swim, walk, fish, and there’s always a few sun-bleached driftwood forts that people have built! After some fun in the sun, we recommend heading over to Sebasco Harbor Resort. They have some incredible wildflower gardens that will make you feel like you’ve traveled to another time and place. Plus, more water views, delicious food, and great mocktails and cocktails!

Fort Popham State Historic Site is located at 219 Popham Road in Phippsburg, Maine

P.S. We only had time for 3 great road trips for this post, but if incredible gardens are your thing, you absolutely can’t miss the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay. It’s a world-class destination!
