Meet Rockland’s Curators
Welcome to Curator, the consignment shop with a story, located in the historic Thorndike Hotel building in Rockland, Maine. Founded by Emily Seymour and Ben Dorr, Curator began as a menswear destination eight years ago and has since expanded into a full-fledged haven for fashion enthusiasts. In 2018, they added a unique twist by cutting a hole in the floor to introduce a staircase down to their lively women’s section, right where the hotel’s old bar used to be.
Their collection grows thanks to their 2,200+ consignors and their partnerships with pickers, auction houses, and downsizing companies. Ben captures their philosophy well: “Our market is excited about that drawer full of t-shirts. There is an emotional and monetary value to them.”
As lifelong residents of Midcoast Maine and proud CHRHS alumni, Ben and Emily opened the kind of store they longed for during their own childhoods, moving beyond the limited options of JCPenney and T.J. Maxx. Their motto, “Clothes for people,” embodies their commitment to inclusivity and community spirit.
Curator is deeply intertwined with the community, not just through the local art that adorns their walls but also through their support for The Landing Place, helping to outfit local high schoolers.
Emily and Ben have built a community cornerstone that sustains them year-round and brings joy to their lives. “Plus, it’s fun to be in business for ourselves,” says Ben.
