Hiata Corduan + Winifred & Evalyn
Located on Main Street in Rockland, Maine, Winifred & Evalyn is a boutique that merges the personal history and creative passions of its owner, Hiata Corduan. Since relocating to the Midcoast four years ago, Hiata has infused the shop with her experience in retail and her personal flair for combining the nostalgic with the contemporary.
Hiata Corduan, originally a bookstore owner in Vermont, opened Winifred & Evalyn in Rockland to bring together a collection of unique and often upcycled items that resonate with both locals and visitors. "The shop allows so much creativity for me," Hiata comments on her role, which allows her to focus on curating and styling the store’s offerings.
The boutique features a diverse range of products, from home textiles like quilts and linens to personal care items such as French soaps and lotions. The store also offers a selection of vintage plates, dinnerware, stationery, and a small collection of baby and children’s goods. Hiata's penchant for 'the hunt' sees her spending significant time at flea markets and estate sales, enriching her inventory with pieces that have history and character.
Named after her grandmothers, Winifred and Evalyn, the store reflects the influential role these women played in Hiata’s life. This influence extends to the products she selects, many of which have a story to tell—like the popular 100% silk French Bandeau sashes and hand-poured candles.
Winifred & Evalyn stands as a testament to Hiata’s dedication to creating a space that feels both welcoming and inspiring. "It's about offering a little bit of beauty and joy that customers can take home with them," says Hiata. The store, with its ever-changing inventory, ensures that no two visits are the same, inviting customers to return and discover new treasures each time.
