Amy Manning + Perfect Pallet
Discover Amy Manning of Nobleboro, Maine, the heart behind Pallet Perfect. Fifteen years ago, when Amy and her husband built their new house, it felt too new to be home. Over time, Amy has transformed it by incorporating a mix of cherished vintage and antique items such as rulers, scales and old advertising signs with unique repurposed pieces made from unlikely pairings - including a built in faux apothecary cabinet (fashioned from an antique door and an old bookcase) making the space truly their own.
Her passion for personalizing didn’t stop indoors. Amy and her husband planted an orchard and transformed a free shed she found on Facebook Marketplace into a delightful "she shed" to house many of her repurposed & up-cycled creations. In spring 2021, despite intending to take a break from projects, Amy was inspired by antique windows she found in Blue Hill. This led to the creation of the Potting Shed, a structure built more for beauty than practicality. "It's not for a practical reason, it's for a pretty reason," Amy says.
Amy aims to make her home a place so inviting that the idea of vacationing elsewhere becomes less appealing. "My husband is ready for a condo," she notes, "but I can't sit still." Their home reflects a philosophy of using locally sourced, often reclaimed items, each with its own story. During COVID-19 lockdowns, she and her husband would find these treasures on drives, adding to their home’s narrative.
The Potting Shed, a standout feature of Amy's property, is built almost entirely from transparent post-and-beam elements, making it a picturesque sight from the sunlit room where Amy and her husband, Randal, start their day with coffee. The unique character of the shed is enhanced by its materials—each piece, except for the commercially bought paint and some finish materials, has been sourced with care from local businesses, junk shops, antique stores, marketplace finds and giveaway piles along the scenic Maine coast, ensuring that everything has its own unique backstory.
Amy loves staying active at home, a process she describes as 'puttering,' although it might look like work to others. "It’s nice to have a place where I don’t want to leave," Amy says. She enjoys the sense of peace & contentment her space brings, making every corner of her home a reflection of her creativity and love for repurposing.
